DMC have a wide variety of variegated thread. Also most brands of crochet thread have a wide variety also; but make sure if you go with yarn or crochet thread that you get fast changing ones.

I use the iris ombre thread. You can find it on amazon, it is fairly inexpensive, and has a lot of different color changing ideas. It also comes with two of each color, so you won't run out of string as quick
