so i've stated making alphas with d hook key chains ( i think that's what they're called) and one pattern i want to do has an odd number of strings (not including the leading string. so how would i add just one string to the key chain? if that makes sense.

I guess you can tie a lark's head knot like all the other base strings and just cut the extra one off.

You could add a column to one side of the pattern, or you could tie on one more base string than the pattern requires and use the extra base string as your leading string

Just do the knot with the Lead string

So you have 6 strings you do the knots than you have 12 , but if you do the last knot in the lead color than you have 2 of your main color just tie of the second one as if if it were a base string
