@crafter83 I can't really comment on that because I've never tried it.

I’m saying you can make soda ash from baking soda. You cook the soda( forget exact time) like at 300 degrees for a hour.

But does it work with knitting yarn because I can't find embroidery floss where I am 😢. Thanks @krazyknots

@AwesomeGrl When you rinse your thread in the cold running water, a little dye will come out. But that dye is excess dye that did not get absorbed in the thread. So don't worry, the majority of the dye will still stick to your thread. The soda ash helps the thread absorb and keep the dye in. 😉

@crafter83 No, baking soda can not be used instead of soda ash. Some reaction will occur, the resulting colors will be far weaker than if soda ash is used. Soda ash works much better. 👍

If you wash your bracelets or strings after they're dry, will the color start to wash out?
Also, this is a great and in depth tutorial! I'll try and do it sometime this summer!

I should try this sometime - I love tie-dying and multicolored thread but don't like that it costs more - so this is a great solution! Thanks for the tutorial it was so clear and easy to understand (if that doesn't mean the same thing!)

Also I really want to try this, but have too much colored thread already. Maybe in the fall/ winter when. Have used some of it up.
I never thought of doing this myself so this is very helpful. Thanks @KrazyKnotz ❤️

You can make your own soda ash using baking soda. I can’t paste links so google it. The site I bookmarked is Melev’s Reef.
