@tara51 I don't see your photo, but it's totally normal for the back of alphas to look really messy, have bumpy edges and be thick from all the overlapping strings, especially the more colors you use.

For the straight-edge technique:
start FORWARD rows with a bf knot, and end the row with a fb knot.
start BACKWARD rows with a fb knot and end with a bf knot.
So essentially at the beginning and end of each row, you’re doing 2 fb or 2 bf knots on the same base string (one to end the row and one to start the next row)

The clean back technique is more advanced and also time-consuming, but makes a beautiful flat and smooth double-sided creation. It’s basically planning the path of each string and tucking them all in between other knots or pairing them with base strings when the color isn’t needed again until later. There’s a tutorial by @mjlgvw at the very bottom of her profile page. It’s easier to practice a pattern with only 2-4 colors until you’re more comfortable with handling a lot of strings 😊

can someone give me some tips? i posted the front and back of my little keychain and i dislike how bumpy it is. i don’t really know like how to keep the leading strings neat in the back. i am very new to alpha patterns and have watched many videos but still am unsure of how to fix my problem. thanks!
