@Laila_Haja because the amount of strings on any alpha pattern is always the amount of base strings plus one extra for the leading string

I love this pattern, but I don't know why it says at the top of the page that I need 16 base stings but when I count the strings in the pattern, it has 15 only. I would really appreciate it if someone told me why. Thanks in advance.
