Oh no! I didn’t realise that I needed permission to just change the background to a gradient. Of course this pattern should be taken down and I apologise to the original creator. I just assumed that it was fine if it was the background since I have seen many people do this and completely forgot about permission! I am so so sorry and regret to have made such a mistake.
@alivetoliv yes, that's written in the guidelines but just adding a gradient background or a striped background etc. does usually not count as different enough. If you were to add something more complex to the background like for exmaple a swarm of bats or a sunrise that's something different.
We moderators do our best but there will always be patterns we accidentally accept despite them being too similar to other patterns. What that means is that if a pattern gets accepted that does not mean it should have actually been accepted. So if you ever come across a pattern you think is too similar to another you can always report it to a moderator.
You also have to consider that many users put lots of effort into their works so it can always happen that if you create a pattern based on another pattern the creator of the original pattern asks for it to be taken down.
"Any user content (material uploaded by users such as patterns, photos etc) belongs to the respective user. The original creator of the content has the copyright to it.
If a pattern is posted by a user that is not the original creator, the real author decides what is going to happen with that pattern. If the author does not like distribution of his/her patterns this way, then it will be deleted from this site and the user posting it will be punished with temporary or permanent ban." (from the terms of use)
The similar patterns you see under each pattern are not actually based on how similar the patterns are but how similar the keywords are. That is one of the reasons why keywords have to be accurate and why it's best to add a bigger amount of keywords.
@ruissa11 and anyone in the future who has questions about permissions and similar patterns... Before submitting a pattern there is a tiny box that you must check stating that the design is not copyrighted or you have permission. Any user on BB can use any design already published to make something new. The patterns used generally appear below it. The BB website says "Alpha patterns that have been made from other patterns are also treated as unique if they add some more detail to the original pattern." There are also numerous moderators that review content submitted and deem it as ok to publish. These moderators often have 4-10 years as members of BB to qualify. There are so many designs that are variations of patterns that already exist. The moderators have our back so, all we have to do is relax and make bracelets. 🙂
@AwesomeGrl, yeah I agree. I absolutely love the background on this one, but since the castle is the same, I just thought the original creator should be credited 😊
