lilbunny yes! i just started it, i'm doing like the forward knots section then the backward knots. so 3 knots forward w each string, then the next section of 3 backwards 🙂
@barneco okay I figured it out, when it calls for patterns like this that changes colour, the only way to fix that issue, is to add a string on either end, only doing backward forward and forward backward knots onto, that way it doesn’t mess with the pattern. You only add them for the edges, you won’t make any knots with these. The pattern will not change if you add 2 extra strings and only do those knots on them. Hope you understand? If not please watch masha knots straight edge technique video, it’s an older one but explains it perfectly !

@michlynxx Ok, now you have me intrigued! Let me try and explain my confusion, and maybe you can point out where I'm misunderstanding.
In this pattern(above), take the leftmost knot on row 25. That knot has white coming in from the left, and blue coming in from the right. It calls for a forward knot, which will result in a white knot, with the blue strand now on the left and the white strand now on the right. For the pattern to continue correctly that blue strand must be on the left and the white strand must be on the right. If I were to instead do a backward forward knot there, I would end up with a blue knot(which wouldn't fit with the pattern) and would also end up with the blue strand on the right and the white strand on the left, which would corrupt the pattern from that point forward. The leftmost knot on row 23 doesn't have this problem since they're both white strands, so the knot will always be white and the strands will always be w-w not matter which knot you tie.
How would you handle that leftmost knot on row 25 to keep smooth edges and maintain the integrity of the pattern?
@barneco I’m not sure what you mean you couldn’t do it on the rows when the colour changes 🤔 hmm , I just do that technique with every last string on each side no matter the colour, you should always make sure the tension of your knots are pretty similar if not the same. So it looks more even throughout the bracelet. Also using the same brand of strings helps. I will keep an eye out for your picture though! I think I might start this one too 😍 yes this is a even number of strings, I remade the original pattern which has an odd number. But thank you ! I love it too
@michlynnxx - Thank you so much for the awesome info! I have been trying to use the edge technique you describe, and I do find that it works awesome. In this bracelet i used it when each strand of the edges were the same color, but couldn't do it on those rows where the colors changed. I think those spots are where I introduced bumps because they didn't quite match the nicer edge knots. How do you handle when the colors change? Do you just manage it by adjusting your tension?

Sorry for the spam comments - but I also meant to mention, in regards to my last comment explaining how I trimmed the strands to make thinner tails... I realize that I couldn't figure out how to do this on the starting triangle end, so instead of doing it "forward", I started the bracelet by working an inch or so in just flat rows(left to right in the pattern), but leaving a good 12" on length on the "starting" end of the threads. Then once the bracelet was substantial enough to stay together, I turned it around and worked backwards, forming the "starting" triangle end in the same way you would make on at the end of the bracelet. This let me trim the strands on the starting end as I described in my last comment.

Hey @barneco - thanks for your comment! I haven’t tried to make this bracelet yet, but for the edges. There is a technique used called the straight edge technique. If you know all 4 basic knots , what you have to do is “backward forward” knots on your left side last string only, and “forward backward knots on your right side last string only. Also using a clipboard and making sure your bracelet is flat helps. 🙂 For measuring bracelets. I always measure a bit more then I need anyways. But, I hold the string from one shoulder and stretch it out my arm length, I double that, so my strings are usually about 2 meters long enough for the ties on each side, the wider the bracelet, the more knots you make, so the longer the string has to be. You can always save your scrap strings that aren’t used for other bracelets, or mostly alpha patterns if you know how to do those? I would love to see a photo if you have one to upload though 😁 it’s good to follow “masha knots” on YouTube, as she has mostly all tutorials on the troubles you are having! Also lots on triangle ends and how to finish bracelets! Hope this helps! Xx
Also meant to say that I tried a new technique on the tails this time. Since I didn't want tails that were 24 strands thick, I pared them down to 8(and 6 on the final end) strand pairs for the spun tails. I did this while knotting the triangle ends. I started the triangle end as normal, and after 6 knots I began cutting a single strand after each knot as I worked my way to the center. I don't think this will unravel as the clipped strands were all captured by at least 6 knots on the edge of the triangle end(and knotted within the pattern too, of course). I think I'll use this going forward when doing spun tails for patterns that have more than 16 total strands.
