I love that you went from an average of 18 strings or so across the board - at least in the finished pieces that you have posted photos of - straight to a 64 string design - no small undertaking - and a difficult one at that! That's ambition and determination!
Hi @maevepren, the triangle start/end is definitely harder with more strings. I made it too tight here are at the start and I had the same buckling problem that you mentioned. I almost started over due to that. The only way I was able to get the whole bracelet relatively flat with so many strings was by going really slowly (30 hours) - I evaluate every knot pretty carefully before going on to the next - and keeping the bracelet firmly anchored down to the board. I keep a flat piece of plastic (plexiglass, so I can see through it) taped over all of the completed portion of the bracelet as I progress. As you tie each knot on the end watch the main body of the bracelet and if you see any of the surface moving or being distorted then you are pulling the triangle end knot too tight. That said I'm not particularly good at making the triangle ends. Thanks so much for taking the time and considerable effort to make one of my big designs!
@vikas_daga I am obsessed with your photo of this pattern. It is so beautiful! Do you have any tips for doing triangle ends on the end? I made one of your other large patterns and when I made my triangle end to end the bracelet, I must’ve made it too tight because it started folding inwards a bit (probably visible in the photo)
I finally finished this! The first of my 64 string designs that I've actually made. I uploaded a photo with it next to a typical 16 string bracelet. It was difficult to keep the large diamond motifs straight due to the number of strings. The zigzags on the sides were easier to keep sharp. I also erred in making the triangle start too tight, so it was hard to get the first diamond shaped well. It took about 30 hours total, with about 7,500 double knots. The time was reduced a lot due to the side zigzag sections being quick to make. The diamonds and the dense interior designs were painstaking. I had to replace about 20 strings. I made variation #319576. Overall I would say my satisfaction with the result is about 6/10. I think I will try a 48 string design next, see if it's easier to get it really square.
I am 50% of the way through making this, with two large diamonds almost complete and one more to add. Overall it is proving hard to get really square shapes and straight lines, just due to so many strings, but the pattern is not very difficult to follow. I expect to replace about half the strings by the time I finish so I'm getting a chance to improve my skills there. It does make a big difference how carefully and well you do it.
