@halokiwi Thank you for your help 🙂. I'm new to making alphas, so I don't know much about doing them, so I asked for some help. I appreciate you helping me out, thanks again. 🙂
In alphas there are two types of strings: base strings and leading strings.
You can calculate the length of the base strings based on the amount of rows in the pattern. If you made an alpha before, you just measure how long a certain amount of rows is and then use that to calculate how long 72 rows will be. That plus some extra for ties is what you need for the base strings.
Calculating the length of the leading strings is not necessary. You can just leave them on the skein and cut them once you are done.
Does anyone know the exact measurements of each string? I'm sorry 😭 I just don't want to add more string later on, I always find that frustrating, while instead, I could just cut the correct amount. Apologies again, but can someone please help 🙂 thank youu
@fish202 probably allow 2 skeins (maybe 1 1/2) for the background color. Then for the other colors I normally just cut a comfortable length to knot with... around 40-50 in/ 100-130 cm for alphas since it's easy to add more the same way as a new color switch. For color D you could probably cut less since it's not used very often 😊
@aceee the butterfly is #23134 The pattern you're referring to was copied from both patterns without permission and removed from the site after the official monthly challenge was over, which it was accidentally chosen for 🙂 After the pattern was removed, all photos, to-dos and loves were moved to one of the original patterns instead of being deleted along with it. You are still welcome to knot the combination and post your photo to either of the patterns used 👍
